DENIM COX

Year of Birth?
1995

How old were you when you first started riding and what got you into it?
I grew up out in the desert of Tucson Arizona. Tucson is pretty cool for a kid to grow up.  I lived in a cul-de-sac with 13 houses on it and at least half the kids in the hood were my age so I was always outside messing around with them. The summers were pretty brutal cause it gets up to about 110 degrees but I had a pool in the back yard so we were chillin. My neighborhood was backed up to this wash so I was always out there shoveling lil dirt jumps and doing all sorts of reckless shit.

How old were you when you first started riding and what got you into it?
I grew up watching X-Games and Nitro Circus with my Dad since I was real little. I thought it was cool as fugg to see all those dudes on TV doing crazy tricks so I wanted to do some crazy shit too. My old man was down to support whatever I wanted to do so I spent a few years going through phases with scooters, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, and eventually fell into a serious love for biking at around 15.

One-and-done or one-hundred tries?
One and done baby, I fuckin hate trying something for hours. If I get frustrated enough to start screamin its time to call it quits and come back to it later in life.  Unless we’re in a foreign country at a spot I’ll probably never see again, then I get real determined.

What riders originally inspired you?
I didn’t really have any influences early on except the dudes I saw in X-Games. I’ve never really been the kinda guy to watch a bunch of BMX videos, I was just young and trying to catch some air on my bike. Haha.

Who do you like watching ride now?
Nowadays I like to watch all my friends ride cause they just blow my damn mind every time we go out but a few of my influences are Shawn Mac for his one and done banger attitude, Dennis and Fernengal cause they both go real fast and real big, and I fuckin love Reeds riding cause he’s the king of spot usage.

Style or stunts?
Style and spot usage over everything.

What’s the hardest you’ve worked to get a clip?
I think I went back to this stupid bank to rail set up like 3 times to get this 180-crook-cab and I don’t know why it was so hard or why I was so determined but I have like 5 hours in that clip and I’m pretty sure it ended up getting scrapped, haha, oh well its the way she goes.

The Monster Mash DVD recently dropped. What was it like filming with the Common Crew on that?
The Common Crew is the best family a guy could ask for. The last 4ish years we’ve gone out almost every weekend to film for it with the same goal to finish that DVD. Every time we went out we pushed each other like crazy and I think that’s the reason everyone is so satisfied with their part. A lot of the things in the DVD would not have happened without the groups encouraging energy.

You had a hand in putting together the Common Days book, are those creative outlets important to you?
Hell yeah I take a lot of pride in my work. Chris and I put a shit load of hours into those things cause we knew that the only people who would buy it were the people that really appreciate the fact that they were hand made. I love working with my hands doing anything from sewing a boat seat to building a fake lil spot out of wood.  It’s all fun to me and I could never stop doing it.

What’s your worst habit?
I don’t know if this is a habit or character flaw but the first time I meet someone and they say their name it just flys right over my head so it always ends up biting me in the ass next time I see them.  I don’t think this it’s a habit either but EVERY time I go ride I get a flat tire and it drives me fucking mental. I also eat out way too much and my bank account hates me for it.

Night in or night out?
I typically stay in when I’m home but during travels I’m always down to have a night.

Where is the last place you rode?
Yesterday some of the boys and I were cruising some Laguna hill bombs and random lil setups.  We found this sweet rock set up and sessioned it until I inevitably got two flat tires…

Where would you like to visit with your bike?
Anywhere thats not So-cal is cool with me. I love traveling and just riding anything new. I missed the china trip a couple years ago so I would really love to go to Shanghai.

Video part or web edit?
I would way rather put heart and sole into a video part.

What frame do you run and why did you choose it?
I run the ALVX in 20.8″ and I chose it because some kid at the skatepark had it and it just felt so responsive and easy to throw around compared to what I was on. This frame is amazing and I feel like my riding has changed and improved a lot due to it.

How do you like to run your setup?
Chain slammed, bars a cunt hair forward of level with the fork and seat high so it’s nice and comfy to pedal sitting down.

Any final words?
Yeah I just wanna give another big ol’ thanks to Reed and Grant for the spot on the team and say I’m so fuckin’ stoked to go on some trips and put in some work! BSD is a dream team and I can’t believe I’m a part of it…
